- Any person, company, mineral right holder, licenced dealer, industrial owner, contractor, lapidary licence holders is eligible to import minerals
- An importer shall apply for a permit to import minerals from the nearby Mining Commission Regional Office
- An importer shall state a purpose for importation
- Application fee for the import permit is USD 300
- Application fee is exempted for imported minerals sold in Mineral Markets, Smelters & Refineries
- An importer shall make a declaration of minerals at the exit point to the collector of customs
- Precious metals, tin, tungsten, tantalum, mineral concentrates and loaded carbon imported are exempted from Value added Tax (VAT)
- A person importing diamonds, radioactive minerals, tin, tungsten, tantalum, shall obtain an import permit upon making a declaration in a prescribed form and upon proof of compliance to international conventions and obligations
Disclaimer: Minerals that have been imported into Tanzania may not be exported, unless an export permit has been obtained from the Commission and the Commission is satisfied that the minerals to be exported comprise the whole or part of the minerals to which the import permit relates.
